Resume Building - Interview
Youth Leadership Pickens strives to bring together children from all walks of life, in order to better prepare them for their future as leaders in their community. To continue developing leadership skills this year, the YLP Steering Committee spent two months preparing the YLP participants for a real life interview. In January, the students learned the ins and outs of creating the perfect resume and being prepared for an interview from MUST Ministries. In February, the YLP Steering Committee gathered together 30 community leaders to interview the 30 students for an “internship” at their company. The session was divided into two segments: Dinner/Casual Conversation and Interview. Carriage House catered a delicious dinner for the pairs to enjoy as they discussed the community leader’s experience in their career field and the student’s future goals. Afterwards, the community leader interviewed the YLP participant and provided them feedback for future interviews. Several students walked away that night not only with some insightful tips, but with business connections that will truly help them in the future. Thank you to every community leader who participated in this wonderful session and thank you to Michele Brackin, Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia, for organizing this event!
Throughout the year, the Steering Committee helps guide and direct each student to grow as student leaders and build upon the foundations set at each session. This is accomplished through additional sessions led by individuals that embody the definition of a leader throughout the community, attending city meetings, volunteering with various non-profits, and learning the history of this great community.
The Youth Leadership Pickens program is supported by the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, and funded by the annual Snowball Golf Tournament, which is hosted by the Chamber.
