Leadership Pickens is a program of the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, which seeks out existing and emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds and offers them an educational experience to expose them to various aspects of the community.
The Leadership Pickens Steering Committee desires to select a diversified group in terms of race, sex, and occupation. Individuals from business, social services, government, cultural, and educational organizations will comprise the class. Class members must live and/or work in Pickens County.
Leadership Pickens participants are required to attend an orientation, a retreat, and seven class sessions. Commitment to 100% attendance is required of each participant.
Tuition for each participant is $450. Participants are responsible for paying his/her own tuition or making arrangements for payment by his/her employer and/or a sponsoring organization. The fee must be remitted prior to the January orientation, unless prior arrangements are made. Tuition covers meals, lodging, honorariums for speakers, a graduation banquet, and miscellaneous administrative cost.
The individual interested in participating in the program must complete a detailed application and must be received back at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce no later than deadline date announced. From this pool of applicants, the Steering Committee will vote on the candidates who meet the eligibility requirements for the class.
If Pickens County is to achieve its potential, the people must be aware of the social, economic, educational, and governmental needs of the community.
The participants profit from getting to know each other and from the formal and informal exchange of ideas and experiences. They gain knowledge from the overall program on many subjects, thus preparing them for a more active leadership role in the community.
